Inspiration for my work stems from multiples and repetition. Whether it is an accumulation of everyday objects inside a kitchen cupboard or an ordered display in a museum, I explore this notion of 'still life' within a craft medium.
I use objects that others may consider to be rubbish. Consequently processes are important in the development and making of these 'found' mass-produced pieces. Everyday containers are transformed; cast in 'white gold', commonly known as porcelain. Often pieces have precious inclusions, which create unique marks in the firing process or are explored in pate de verre glass, raku and smoke firing.
The installation 'Precious' subverts the tradition of displaying precious objects on the mantelpiece, replacing them with a composition of cast porcelain throw away containers.
